BADMINTON England has signed a long term partnership with Center Parcs.
The deal, which will extend beyond the London 2012 Olympics, will see both parties working together to build the future of English Badminton.
Center Parcs, which operates four hugely popular holiday parks where Badminton is the biggest participation sport, becomes the sponsor of Team England and will also support the annual National Schools Championship.
“This is a very important day for BADMINTON England, and for English Badminton as a whole,” said Adrian Christy, BADMINTON England Chief Executive. “We aim to become the best Badminton nation in the world by 2016 and the assistance provided by Center Parcs will help us build towards achieving that goal.”
“Players from the grass roots all the way through to the elite will benefit. I am delighted to agree this partnership and look forward to further strengthening the already solid links between Center Parcs and our great sport.”
Badminton is Center Parcs’ most popular activity, with over 107,000 courts booked each year by guests at its facilities in Cumbria, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire and Suffolk.
“Through our partnership with BADMINTON England, Center Parcs will be helping to support England’s badminton players, from grass roots through to elite, as they strive to become the best in the world,” commented Colin Whaley, Sales & Marketing Director at Center Parcs.
“As well as providing financial support which will help develop world class talent, BADMINTON England will be making the most of our facilities for their players’ training camps and also the National Schools Championships, with the Olympic squad currently enjoying a team building weekend at our Elveden Village as part of their preparations prior to Beijing.”
Team England will play international matches against Germany and Poland this autumn, before the prospect of the European Mixed Team Championships in Liverpool next February.
“This is an exciting time for Badminton in this country,” said Ian Wright, BADMINTON England National Head Coach. “With the help of Center Parcs, I am sure our talented squad of players can develop into even more of a world force and inspire a new generation to take up the game.”
BADMINTON England will provide all six players for the Great Britain Badminton team at the Beijing Olympics in August, and looks forward to developing more talent for Team GB in the future.
“This is a massive step forward for the game in England, but will also see potential benefits for Britain’s 2012 hopes, as the support given by Center Parcs can only increase the chance of more English players developing into world class performers,” added Wright.
