Peter Gade won the Denmark Open Super Series men’s singles title to confirm he is still one of the world’s finest badminton players. In the final Gade beat Joachim Persson, a fellow Dane, who achieved his best result in a Super Series event and will now move into the top 10 of the world. Denmark also enjoyed success in the mixed doubles event through unseeded pair Joachim Fischer and Christina Pedersen.
Despite a number of withdrawals at this years tournament, the changes in the men’s singles did not affect Peter Gade’s half of the draw. He faced two Chinese opponents and European challengers Dicky Palyama and Kenneth Jonassen (playing in his final Denmark Open) before meeting compatriot Joachim Persson in the final. The spectators were treated to a competitive match as Persson, silver medallist from the European Championships, was keen to prove himself in his first Super Series final. The match went to three sets. Gade controlled the decider winning 21/14.
