COMEBA and Badminton Europe collaborate in a Mediterranean Project

04 August 2008

COMEBAThe Confederation of Mediterranean Badminton (COMEBA) is currently managing, jointly with Badminton Europe, a five-month regional project for its members.  Earlier this year, COMEBA invited its member federations to apply for the staging of a seven-day Training Camp in their respective countries aimed at the further development of their junior and senior players as well as of their coaches.

Seven national associations applied to participate in the project.

On its part, Badminton Europe issued on its website a call for applications from qualified and experienced coaches who would be interested to conduct these Camps. This generated quite a positive response.   Designated as the “Itinerant Coach Project”, the venture was inaugurated in July with the first Training Camp in Casablanca (Morocco), which was ably conducted by the French coach Herve Mitaty.   This Camp featured the participation of seventeen players and six coaches. It integrated a number of technical and tactical sessions that elicited a very positive response from the participants, who showed motivation and trained hard to meet the coach’s expectations.   During the Camp, Herve Mitaty provided the Moroccan players and coaches with valuable insights into the latest playing and coaching techniques.    The project continues in August with the organisation of a Camp in Damascus (Syria). Separate training camps will be organised in Larnaca (Cyprus) and Korca (Albania) during September. Algeria will follow in October and Gibraltar in November.   The overall project will be completed in December, with the final Camp taking place in Malta.   A project of this nature is certain to be highly beneficial for the upcoming players and coaches of the participating Mediterranean countries. It provides clear evidence of the joint commitment which COMEBA and Badminton Europe have for the continued development of Badminton in the Mediterranean region.   On behalf of its members, COMEBA has expressed its considerable appreciation to Badminton Europe for the financial and organisational support that it has provided in the realisation of this project.   For Badminton Europe   John Attard Secretary General COMEBA
